News and Views  :::  Natarajan's mailing list

On the occasion of Prof. AT Natarajan's retirement from his chair at the University of Leiden last year, one of his post-docs -- Dr Jordi Surrallés, the winner of the EEMS Young Scientist Award 1998 -- took the initiative to set up an e-mail network of scientists in the area of chromosomal aberrations. Many of the early subscribers to the list have also been post-docs in Prof. Natarajan's laboratory.

PURPOSE

Natarajan's e-mailing list was created as an initiative of about sixty of Prof. Natarajan's postdocs, who joined efforts to acknowledge Prof. Natarajan's contribution to the field of chromosome aberrations, on his official retirement. The Natarajan's e-mailing list is a forum of quick communication between scientists working in the field of chromosomal aberrations in order to:

1) announce job positions, meetings, and other information of common interest
2) comment on recent meetings
3) comment on key papers in top journals, specially Science, Cell, Nature, and Nature Genetics.
4) send title, authors and abstract of recently accepted or published papers
5) enhance international collaboration
6) search for partners for international join projects
7) request reprints
8) share and exchange scientific information/facilities (protocols, papers, internet addresses)
9) organize parties, farewells, presents, excursions and other leisure-scientific activities

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Easy: all the messages sent to the mailing list are automatically forwarded to all the members. If you reply to a message received through the maililng list, only the sender will receive the reply. In case of commencial interferences, only members of the mailing list will have electronic access to the e-mailing list. If anyone wants to be subscribed, it is required to send a message asking so to the following address: jordi.surralles@uab.es.

WHAT IS THE ADDRESS OF THE MAILING LIST?
If you want to spread a message to all the members of the mailing list, just send an e-mail to the following address, NATARAJAN-CA-L@CC.UAB.ES
(which stands for "Prof. Natarajan", "Chromosome Aberrations" and "List"), and your message will be automatically forwarded to all the members.

WHAT ARE THE KEYWORDS OF THE E-MAILING LIST?
-Aneuploidy
-Centromeres
-Chromosomal aberrations
-Chromosome fragility syndromes
-Chromosomes
-Cytogenetics
-FISH
-Micronuclei
-Painting
-Repair
-Retrospective dosimetry
-Telomeres

TO UNSUBSCRIBE
If you want to be excluded from the mailing list, please send an e-mail message asking so to Dr Surrallés at the address above.

Please fell free to spread this message to as many people in the field of chromosomal aberrations as possible. After the official announcement of this initiative at the IVth International Symposium on Chromosomal Aberrations (Essen, Germany) and at the 28th Annual Meeting of the EEMS (Salzburg, Austria), the up-dated list has already grown to about 255 addresses of scientists working in our field world-wide.
